Cheni Farm Limited is a privately owned horticultural farm specializing in the growing and exportation of fresh horticultural produce based in Nyeri County, Kenya. We focus on sustainable production of fresh herbs for the export market in the United Kingdom and European Union.
Founded in 2018, we started as an out-grower for a locally based export company, initially focusing on production of outdoor herbs and eventually including greenhouse herbs and vegetables to our produce portfolio.
Our produce is distributed in retail markets and we are registered to supply produce to supermarkets such as Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Ocado. Our clients are retail and wholesale distributors based in the United Kingdom and European Union. Our value addition processes include sorting, grading and packaging of fresh herbs and vegetables as required by the end consumer. Our herb products include Basil, Thyme, Mint, Rosemary, Oregano, Sage, Tarragon, Coriander and Lemongrass. We recruit graduates from Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions and provide them with the requisite training and capacity building in agribusiness opportunities.
We orchestrate our activities through industry associations (such as the Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya, Herb Growers Association of Kenya), Government Ministry affiliations such as the Ministry of Agriculture, County Government Agriculture Departments, KEPHIS, HCD, Certification Bodies, lead partner farmers and agronomic champions.
Through our traceability system, the company is able to track and trace every kilo of product packed all the way back to the planting. This includes monitoring with historical data of every block, thereby assuring distribution of safe, hygienic and good quality product. We observe good agricultural practices guided by our accreditations, with a full traceability system in place to meet the industry’s stringent quality specifications. For quality & food safety assurance, all shipments are inspected by Horticultural Crop Development Authority (HCDA) and Kenya Export Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS).
Project development has been undertaken using defined national international standards as guidelines for best practice for project implementation and planning.
